NewsNow Desk: Five shipwrecks workers were burnt in a fire at around 7 am on Saturday in the tank of a scrap ship brought for cutting at the Jamuna Shipbreaking Yard on Sonaichhari in Sitakunda, Chittagong.
Besides, at least 10 workers were injured while rushing off the ship.
On information, locals and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the burnt workers and sent them to various hospitals in the city including Chittagong Medical College.
Initially, the identity of the injured and burnt workers could not be ascertained.
The fire was also seen burning in the ship around 10:30 in the morning.
Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Model Police Station, said the fire started when workers were starting work on a scrap ship brought for cutting. It is learned that some five workers were burnt and some others were injured, he added.
